Jose Mourinho and Tottenham urged to sign PSG striker Edinson Cavani after Harry Kane injury

Spurs are expected to bolster Mourinho’s attacking options this month after Harry Kane was ruled out until at least April with the hamstring injury he sustained against Southampton. Uruguay legend Cavani has been strongly linked with a move in recent weeks and French champions PSG are said to be open to offers with his contract set to expire in the summer.

The 32-year-old has scored a staggering 198 goals in 290 appearances for PSG – and a further 50 for his country – but has struggled for game time this season. Speaking on talkSPORT, Bent said: ‘I knew it was going to be a big injury [for Harry Kane]. It was also going to be more than a month. The hamstring is a bad one and it takes time to heal. ‘Tottenham now need to sign a striker in January. Not one to play back-up to Kane but one who can start now and is ready to go.

‘We’ve spoken about Edinson Cavani. There’s your guy. Go and get him. He’s getting on in age but he can still do a job. They need to sign someone who can score goals right now. ‘You can’t worry about the effects on the squad. I’m sure Kane gets back in the side, but he may need to be patient. Right now they need to break the bank on a top player. ‘They might have to spend more than £60m because these players don’t grow on trees. But they need to sign someone who is ready to score goals right now.’ Tottenham, who are currently sixth in the Premier League, face leaders Liverpool on Saturday.
